Allergy Testing
in Istanbul
Looking for allergy testing in Istanbul for yourself or your child? Contact Istanbul Allergy to discuss your symptoms and earlier results. Explore the available assessment pathways and confirm which investigations are appropriate before booking your visit.
The most useful testing plan starts with a clinical question. Whether the concern is a food reaction, a persistent contact rash, respiratory symptoms or an unexplained report, the aim is an understandable diagnosis and next step in care.
Not Sure Which Test You Need?
You do not need to choose a test before contacting us. Explain what happened, when symptoms occur and what has already been investigated. Testing should follow the history and the question that needs answering, rather than be selected only by panel size.
- Symptoms after a food or medicine: start with the food and drug assessment pathways.
- An immediate allergy question: explore blood-based testing and skin prick testing.
- A rash related to contact: read about patch testing and selected dental-material assessment.
- Wheeze, cough or breathing concerns: explore airway and lung-function assessment.
- An earlier abnormal report: send the complete document and ask whether clinical review is needed before repeating tests.
The links below explain each pathway. They do not mean every listed investigation is suitable for one patient or that all should be completed together.
Blood-Based Allergy Assessment
Specific IgE, selected molecular investigations and specialist laboratory methods answer different questions. Discuss the purpose of the request before choosing a panel. Confirm the actual targets, sample requirements and reporting arrangements for your appointment.
Allergy Blood Test
Explore testing for IgE directed towards selected allergens. Results need interpretation with the symptoms and exposure history; a positive result is not automatically a clinical diagnosis.
Explore Allergy Blood Test →Total IgE Test
Understand a high or normal total IgE result. The test does not identify the responsible allergen and cannot independently establish or exclude allergy.
Explore Total IgE Test →Molecular Allergy Testing
Learn how component-specific investigations can help clarify selected sensitisation patterns. The useful targets depend on the history and the uncertainty being investigated.
Explore Molecular Allergy Testing →ALFA Allergy Testing
Read about the ALFA lateral flow assay for selected IgE measurements. Confirm the allergens requested; the platform name does not imply one fixed comprehensive panel.
Explore ALFA Allergy Testing →Basophil Activation Test
Explore BAT as an additional investigation for selected clinical questions. It requires specialist laboratory arrangements and is not automatically needed after every routine result.
Explore Basophil Activation Test →Skin Prick & Contact Allergy Assessment
Immediate sensitisation testing and delayed contact-allergy assessment are different pathways. Describe whether the concern is an immediate reaction, a persistent rash after contact or a possible dental-material problem. The appropriate method follows that clinical question.
Skin Prick Test
Find out how skin prick testing contributes to assessment of selected allergens. Preparation, skin suitability and current medicines need review before the procedure.
Explore Skin Prick Test →Patch Testing
Explore patch testing for suspected allergic contact dermatitis. It is different from a skin prick test and usually involves planned application and later readings.
Explore Patch Testing →Dental Patch Testing
Learn how patch assessment may contribute when the history raises a dental-material contact-allergy question. Results should be considered with clinical and dental findings.
Explore Dental Patch Testing →Food Reactions & Drug Allergy Assessment
Start with the actual episode: the exposure, symptoms, timing and treatment received. Food allergy, digestive intolerance and reactions to medicines do not share one universal test. The assessment may involve several carefully selected steps rather than a single screening panel.
Food Allergy Testing
Understand the roles of skin testing, specific IgE and selected further investigations. The plan should distinguish a clinically relevant reaction from sensitisation without corresponding symptoms.
Explore Food Allergy Testing →Oral Food Challenge
Explore a medically supervised food challenge when the diagnosis needs clarification or previous allergy is being reassessed. Suitability and the appropriate setting must be confirmed beforehand.
Explore Oral Food Challenge →Food Intolerance Assessment
Read about the separate questions involved in lactose intolerance, celiac investigations and food allergy. Food IgG or IgG4 panels are not recommended to diagnose intolerance.
Explore Food Intolerance Assessment →Drug Allergy Testing
Learn how a suspected medicine reaction is evaluated using the history and selected investigations. A negative isolated test does not automatically authorise taking the suspected medicine again.
Explore Drug Allergy Testing →Breathing & Airway Assessment
Respiratory measurements provide information about breathing or airway inflammation rather than identify every allergen. Ask how each investigation contributes to the symptom assessment and whether a separate allergy question also needs review.
FeNO Testing
Learn about nitric oxide measurement in exhaled breath. FeNO contributes information about a particular inflammatory pattern and is interpreted with symptoms, treatment and other findings.
Explore FeNO Testing →Lung Function Testing
Explore airflow and exhaled-volume measurements, including selected bronchodilator assessment. Technique, quality and the clinical context matter when interpreting the recording.
Explore Lung Function Testing →Other Selected Diagnostic Assessment
Some investigations listed alongside allergy services answer a different medical question. The reason for referral and the measurement method must be clear so that the appointment matches the assessment actually requested.
Sweat Testing
Understand how sweat testing contributes to cystic fibrosis evaluation. It is not an allergy test. Sweat chloride and conductivity are different measurements and should not be interpreted interchangeably.
Explore Sweat Testing →Preparing for Your Assessment
Bring the complete earlier reports, a current medication list and a concise symptom timeline. For a suspected reaction, record the exposure, approximate amount, timing, symptoms and treatment received. Tell the team which foods or exposures are tolerated as well as those avoided.
Preparation is test-specific. Skin testing, blood sampling, patch readings, breathing investigations and a supervised food challenge have different requirements. Obtain written instructions for the procedures actually booked; do not stop essential medicines or deliberately provoke a reaction independently.
For children, provide the age, previous testing experience and any feeding, sensory or sampling difficulties. Ask how a caregiver can support the visit. If health changes before travel, contact the team so that the plan can be reviewed.
Turning Test Results Into a Care Plan
A positive allergy finding does not automatically establish that an exposure causes symptoms. A negative test also needs interpretation in relation to the actual target, method and suspected mechanism. The result should be considered alongside the history and the purpose of the investigation.
Ask what has been confirmed, what remains uncertain and which next step is useful. The outcome may be treatment advice, clarification of an existing label, a targeted additional investigation or a plan to avoid unnecessary repeat testing. Do not change food avoidance or an emergency plan solely from a coloured laboratory category.
Our Allergy Treatments page explains the care pathways that may follow assessment. A laboratory report should support that clinical discussion rather than replace it.
Planning Allergy Testing in Istanbul
Contact Istanbul Allergy with the patient’s age, main concern and previous reports. Ask about consultation with Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akçay and confirm the appropriate assessment scope, procedure availability and reporting arrangements before travel.
Our address is Harbiye Mah., Teşvikiye Cad., Karaosmanoğlu Apartmanı, No: 37, Floor 3, Şişli, Istanbul, opposite City’s Shopping Mall. Confirm the actual procedure location where relevant, consultation language and any document-translation needs.
Ask what the quotation includes and whether sampling, laboratory analysis, later readings or results discussion are charged separately. Confirm how many visits are needed rather than assume every procedure finishes in one short appointment. Our Plan Your Visit and International Patients pages support practical planning.
An online consultation may help review the history or an existing report before travel. Procedures requiring equipment, specimen collection or direct supervision cannot be performed through an ordinary video call.
Allergy Testing: Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need every allergy test listed here?
No. The appropriate selection depends on the clinical question. Several methods provide different types of information, and a larger testing package is not automatically more useful.
Can children and adults contact Istanbul Allergy?
Yes. Provide the patient’s age, symptoms and earlier reports. Confirm suitability and the appropriate service scope for the individual assessment.
Are skin prick tests and patch tests the same?
No. They investigate different reaction patterns and have different procedures and preparation. Describe the symptoms before selecting an appointment.
Does a high total IgE identify my trigger?
No. It is an overall antibody measurement. It does not independently establish allergy or identify the responsible allergen.
Do positive food results always mean the food must be avoided?
Not automatically. Results must be interpreted with the history and actual tolerance. Do not start broad restrictions solely from a panel.
Are food IgG panels recommended for intolerance?
No. Professional allergy guidance does not recommend food IgG or IgG4 panels for diagnosing food intolerance or food allergy.
Is sweat testing an allergy test?
No. It contributes to cystic fibrosis assessment. Confirm whether the requested measurement is chloride or conductivity.
Will all results be available on the same day?
Confirm the actual schedule. Laboratory processing, patch readings and supervised procedures have different timelines.
Can an online consultation help select the next step?
Ask whether a remote history or report review is suitable. In-person assessment or a separate investigation may still be needed.
Should I wait for testing during a severe reaction?
No. Follow the prescribed emergency plan and seek immediate local care. In Turkey, call 112. Do not wait for a routine appointment or WhatsApp response.
